Garbage Truck Crashes into Home in New Milford — No Injuries Reported

NEW MILFORD, NJ — Tuesday, July 9, 2025 — Emergency crews rushed to a residential neighborhood in New Milford just before 7:30 a.m. after a garbage truck crashed into a home, striking two parked cars and damaging a gas meter.

The New Milford Fire Department (NMFD) was dispatched to the scene following reports of a gas line incident. Chief 302 was the first to arrive and quickly determined the situation was more serious than initially reported. Due to the potential for a compromised gas line, a Tri-Boro Box Alarm was requested, bringing in mutual aid from River Edge and Oradell Fire Departments.

🔧 Gas Meter Damaged But No Leak Detected

Responding units included N.M. Tower 31, Engine 34, Oradell Tower 21, and Chief 10 from River Edge. Crews conducted a thorough inspection of the home, checking for gas leaks and structural damage. Fortunately, while the gas meter was severely damaged, it was not compromised, and no gas leak was found.

Firefighters also secured utilities to the home as a precaution. Units remained on the scene for over an hour until the vehicles were safely removed and PSE&G arrived to fully secure the gas line.

🚓 Investigation Ongoing

The New Milford Police Department (NMPD) is currently investigating the cause of the crash. No injuries were reported.

Emergency personnel praised the coordinated response from Battalion 9, River Edge Fire Department, and Oradell Fire Department, whose quick actions helped prevent a potentially hazardous situation from escalating.
