Ridgewood officials have identified a candidate to draft a request for proposals (RFP) to develop Block 3703, Lot 12 of the municipal tax map, commonly referred to as The Gap parking lot on East Ridgewood Avenue.

The Village Council is expected to appoint Tom Calu Consultant LLC to complete the RFP for a $9,000 fee. A resolution to award the contract will be up for a vote at the April 10 council meeting.

An RFP is needed to determine the level of interest that a developer might have in entering into a long-term land lease with the village and converting the lot into a commercial or retail building.

The request is considered the first of many steps in the Chamber of Commerce’s ambitious proposal to use proceeds and taxes from the lease to fund the construction and operation of at least one municipal parking garage in the Central Business District.

Members of Ridgewood’s business community and the Village Council have targeted space on Hudson Street as the location for a parking garage. If the land lease proves successful, a second parking garage will be considered, likely at the corner of Franklin and Walnut avenues.
