Outside AiR Committee Seeks Crafters to Donate Colorful Knitted & Crocheted Squares by November 1st for Whimsical Winter Art Installation

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood, NJ – It’s time to break out your yarn, needles, and hooks! The Outside AiR (Art in Ridgewood) Committee is planning a unique and cozy art installation to inject color and warmth into the Village this winter, and they are calling on all local crafters for help.

The committee is organizing a whimsical “Yarn Bomb” art installation—a form of street art where public objects, in this case, a few trees around the village, are covered in knitted or crocheted material.

Your Crafting Mission: Donate Granny Squares

To make this colorful vision a reality, the committee needs a mountain of squares. This is where your skills come in!

The committee is urgently seeking donations of granny squares from knitters and crocheters. The best part? There’s no need to worry about strict matching:

  • Any Color
  • Any Pattern
  • Any Size

Every single square helps transform a plain tree trunk into a vibrant piece of community art! The goal is to literally “stitch some joy into our community, one square at a time!”

How to Participate and Key Deadline

If you love to knit or crochet and want to contribute to this public art project, please reach out to the committee immediately.

  • What to Donate: Knitted or crocheted granny squares (any size/color).
  • Deadline for Donations: November 1st
  • To Volunteer/Coordinate Drop-off: Email the committee at: RidgewoodMuralProject@gmail.com

This is a fantastic, low-commitment way to get involved in local arts and leave a lasting, colorful mark on the beautiful Village of Ridgewood this winter!

  1. Is this really a good idea? Who will clean up all the dank wet yarn on trees after the first rain fall?

I liked when Ridgewood had pride in a classy way. Clean lawns, garbage picked up in town and nice stores to shop in…what is seriously happening to this town?

  2. Asking sincerely: could blocking oxygen and retaining water harm trees? Doesn’t the bark need to breathe?
