Glen Rock NJ, two New York men have been arrested and charged in connection with a sophisticated phone scam that defrauded a Bergen County couple out of more than $100,000, Glen Rock police announced this week.

A Costly Call: The Scam That Stole $100,000

The case began in January 2025, when a Glen Rock couple reported that $100,000 had vanished from their three bank accounts after receiving suspicious texts and a fraudulent phone call.

At first, the couple received text alerts claiming unauthorized charges on their credit accounts. The scam escalated when a person posing as a bank representative called and convinced them to share sensitive banking information—promising to reverse the fake charges. Instead, the fraudsters withdrew over $100,000 through a series of unauthorized wire transfers.

Arrests Made After Four-Month Investigation

After a detailed four-month investigation, Tremayne D. McDaniel, 32, of Arvenre, NY, and Dames D. Daley, 39, of Staten Island, NY, were arrested and charged with third-degree conspiracy to commit theft, Glen Rock police confirmed.

The pair now await their court appearance at Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack.

More Victims and a Growing Trend

This incident isn’t isolated. Glen Rock police have reported multiple similar scams in recent months, with local residents losing tens of thousands of dollars after sharing information with scammers posing as bank or government officials.

Just last month, three other Glen Rock residents were targeted in a separate scam totaling $49,000 in losses.

Police are urging residents to remain vigilant, never share personal or banking information over the phone, and verify all suspicious messages by calling the institution directly.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities believe McDaniel and Daley may not have acted alone. The investigation remains ongoing, and more arrests may be forthcoming, police said.

How to Protect Yourself from Phone Scams

  • Never share personal or banking info with unsolicited callers.

  • If in doubt, hang up and call your bank directly using the number on your card or official website.

  • Be cautious of texts or emails claiming account issues.

  • Report suspicious activity to your local police department immediately.

Final Word

This case is a stark reminder that phone scams are becoming more sophisticated—and more expensive. Stay alert, verify everything, and always think twice before handing over any sensitive information.
