The “Three Stooges” of NJ Politics? Inside the GOP’s Foreclosure Scandal

Mahwah NJ, according to former GOP congressional candidate Frank Pallotta ,last month, three heavyweights of the New Jersey Republican Party—Jose Arango (Hudson), Peter Murphy (Passaic), and Jack DeLorenzo (Bergen)—made a move that has sent shockwaves through the district. They officially endorsed Tiffany Burress for Congress in New Jersey’s 9th District.

The problem? The endorsement came without a basic background check—or worse, with a total disregard for the candidate’s mounting legal and financial baggage.

The $1.5 Million Foreclosure Elephant in the Room

While the County Chairs are pushing Burress as the face of the party, Pallotta says court records tell a different story. Burress and her husband are currently facing foreclosure on a $1.5 million mansion in Totowa. This isn’t an isolated incident; it follows a pattern of hundreds of missed payments and multiple loan modifications.

“If a candidate cannot manage their own household budget, how can they be trusted with a federal budget for 300 million Americans?”

This isn’t Burress’s first brush with foreclosure—it’s her third. For party leadership to ignore this history suggests either gross negligence or a “backroom deal” designed to favor celebrity over substance.

62 Days a Republican: A Candidate or a “Shiny Object”?

Pallotta  also commented that the red flags don’t stop at the bank. Tiffany Burress’s ties to the party and the district are being called into question:

  • Party Loyalty: Burress officially became a Republican only 62 days before entering the race.

  • Residency: She currently does not live within the boundaries of the 9th District.

  • Leadership Track Record: In Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic, nearly 40 elected county positions are held by Democrats. Instead of winning back seats, critics argue the Chairs are playing “dirty politics” that favor insiders over voters.

Why NJ-9 is the GOP’s Best Shot (And Why This Endorsement Risks It)

The stakes have never been higher. In 2024, NJ-9 swung 20 points toward Donald Trump, leaving the Democratic incumbent winning by a slim 5-point margin. The district is “purple” and ripe for a flip.

However, running a candidate with active foreclosure lawsuits is a gift to the Democratic Party. It provides an easy path for the opposition to pivot from policy to personal financial mismanagement.

Accountability or Evasion?

When asked to address the foreclosure filings and her recent party switch, the Burress campaign has remained silent. For a party that prides itself on fiscal responsibility and transparency, this “Three Stooges” approach to vetting is an insult to every Republican voter in New Jersey.

The GOP has a real shot to take back NJ-9, but only if the “backroom deals” stop and a candidate with basic competence and transparency is allowed to lead the ticket.

  1. The GOP is not taking back NJ-9, and Peter Murphy generally does what is good for Peter Murphy.
