GLEN ROCK, NJ – The commitment to delivering pristine water in Bergen County hit a major milestone on Thursday. Ridgewood Water held a ceremonial groundbreaking at the site of the new Main PFAS Treatment Facility in Glen Rock, signaling the start of construction on a project that will significantly upgrade the local water infrastructure.

The project received a major financial boost thanks to a $1 million state budget appropriation, highlighting strong legislative support for clean water initiatives in the region.

Bipartisan Support Fuels Clean Water Project

The $1 million funding resolution, crucial for moving the project forward, was championed by local legislative leaders who attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The appropriation was successfully sponsored and supported by Assemblywoman Lisa Swain and Assemblyman Chris Tully, alongside Senator Joseph Lagana, Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, and Senator Paul Sarlo.

This unified, bipartisan support demonstrates the priority that New Jersey lawmakers are placing on eradicating PFAS “forever chemicals” and protecting public health.

What the New Facility Means for Residents

When construction is completed in 2026, the Main PFAS Treatment Facility in Glen Rock will play a critical role in filtering and purifying the water supply for the thousands of residents served by Ridgewood Water in Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Midland Park, and Wyckoff.

The new facility is designed to treat up to 360,000 gallons of water per day (GPD), utilizing state-of-the-art technology to remove regulated PFAS compounds to undetectable levels. This effort aligns with Ridgewood Water’s broader strategy to ensure its treated water surpasses the strict EPA standard of 4 parts per trillion (ppt).

The groundbreaking event marks a significant step forward, solidifying the county’s reputation for investing in essential environmental infrastructure and guaranteeing a safer, healthier water future for the community.
