Hackensack Police Department Arrest A Man Wielding a Boxcutter after Attack on Couple

Hackensack NJ, on January 2, 2023, Officers Panagiotis Seretis, Paula Luppino, Dane Marble, and Sgt. Sean Briggs responded to the area of Hudson Street and Broadway on a report of a man with a knife.

The initial investigation revealed that a 61 year old male and a 32 year old female, both from Hackensack, were involved in a dispute with Frye in the middle of the street. During the dispute, Frye brandished a box cutter style knife and assaulted the male and female. The male suffered a laceration to his one of his extremities, while the female suffered a puncture wound to her torso area. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Frye was arrested on scene without incident, and the box cutter style knife was recovered.

Jermaine Frye was criminally charged with aggravated assault / 2C:12-1b(1) (second degree crime), aggravated assault / 2C: 12-1b(2) (third degree crime) possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose / 2C:39-4d (third degree crime) and unlawful possession of a weapon / 2C:39-4d (fourth degree crime). These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Frye was processed and will be transported to the Bergen County Jail on a warrant, pending a first appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
