Hawthorne NJ, a fast-moving garage fire threatened a home and nearby brush on Goffle Hill Road Monday evening, but quick action by the Hawthorne Fire Department and mutual aid crews prevented the flames from spreading further.
Fire Breaks Out, Threatens Home and Brush
🚒 At 5:47 PM, the Hawthorne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, Chief 50 confirmed a fully involved garage fire, with flames extending toward the house.
As firefighters worked to contain the blaze, the fire began spreading to nearby brush and threatened an adjacent property (B exposure).
Mutual Aid Responds as Firefighters Battle the Blaze
A working fire was declared, bringing additional resources to the scene, including:
✅ Glen Rock Engine
✅ North Haledon Ladder
✅ Wyckoff Engine (requested to assist with the brush fire threat)
🔹 Engine 1 and Engine 4 stretched attack lines to battle the fire and protect the exposures.
🔹 Squad 3 and Wyckoff Engine established a water supply by locating hydrants.
🔹 Truck 2 and Rescue 5 crews opened up the garage, checked for extension, and ensured no fire spread to the main structure.
Fire Contained, No Damage to Main House
🔥 Thanks to the strong teamwork and coordination of all responding units, the fire was contained to the garage and nearby brush, with no damage to the main house or adjacent properties.
Firefighters remained on scene for approximately three hours before returning to quarters.
