  1. $30k to repair ?

Jack’s Master Plan is the gift that keeps giving.

    Thanks Willard !

  2. Our Mayor was suppose to fix this flooding. Remember.

  3. More photo op of the Mayor rolling up his sleeves and saying he will fix the problem.

  4. What needs to be done there to prevent the flooding? Bridge, deepen stream etc.?

  5. Maple Park flooded over into Meadowbrook on Aug. 1.

Police had to direct traffic. I was part of the directed traffic on my way home from the library. It was scary and dangerous driving through the flooded street. That’s why the police had to be called out.

I was coming home from the library where my shoes and socks and pants had gotten soaking wet as I had to wade to my car, in leg deep water. Note: Not ankle deep; leg deep, above the ankles.

Before Maple Field was turned artificial, REAC had done a report stating that artificial turf is safe for Maple field and good for the environment.

If the rains had continued the new village hall and new library would have been flooded.

Flooding was not supposed to occur there. Supposedly Ridgewood engineering experts had designed the buildings to prevent flooding.

You know what, the members of REAC should pay to have the artificial truf (grass) removed from Maple Field and real, mother nature’s grass
    replanted.

Trust me as they say: The kids will profit by playing on real grass.

    I don’t trust you, experts.

  6. If there is no natural grass or plantings near the brooks edge to absorb excess water, you will get flooding. Period.
No different than paving up to the edge. If water cannot get absorbed it will flood adjacent areas.
Screw the sports nuts in this town.

  7. #6 – Grass and plantings do not absorb enough excess water to prevent flooding. The soil that they grow in might but not grass and plantings themselves. Jeez people lets keep it real.

  8. fake grass is not the way to go.

  9. Get rid of the artificial fields and go back to natural grass. Who pays for the damage done here ,the sports council?

  10. In town, we are not allowed to direct rainwater into the street; it must be sent into drywells. In the case of the field, it was engineered to facilitate drainage, not absorption. Short of replacing the field – again – the BOE needs to budget $50k per year for field cleanups.

  11. From the Mayors web site. Flood Mitigation: Under the leadership of Village Engineer Chris Rutishauser and his team, we made important progress last year with respect to flood mitigation, cleaning out some of the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook and Saddle River. We will keep this issue in our focus, because the “100 year” floods seem to happen almost annually.

  12. Ridgewood has always flooded and will always flood. That is why it was such great farm land once upon a time. We act as though this is something new, it isn’t.

I don’t know if the turf fields make a bit of difference. The roads near the brook and Graydon have always flooded in a flash storm. But, we should consider this issue carefully as we consider whether to turf more fields or put more money in to existing turf fields.

Pfund’s folly — otherwise known as Village Hall — was re-built with complete disregard for the geographic and environmental conditions where it is located.

As we move forward with proposed master plan changes, this is something we need to keep in mind. Parts of the Village flood. And buildings, road changes, etc all affect where the flood waters go and what is damaged. The new projects planned for downtown are obviously going to have an effect on flooding. If water is pushed to other areas of the town (through sewers, blacktopping of what is now soil, etc) then flooding in those areas will increase. That’s a fact we need to address.

    1. Editors Note :Pfund was not the mayor when the Village Hall Fiasco was started

  13. James:

Editors Note :Pfund was not the mayor when the Village Hall Fiasco was started

Pat Mancuso and Jane Reilly were responsible for that disaster.

    1. Yes it was another Jane Reilly disaster

  14. Check out the plaque on the rear entrance to Village Hall all the players are there.

  15. James:

Yes it was another Jane Reilly disaster

    There were many.

  16. When Village Hall proved to be inadequate for current needs, it should have been knocked down and left as grassland (more playing fields are needed, remember?) and a new building built in a nonflooding zone. (Considering the millions spent, this would have been possible.) Yes, there are some such places; this isn’t Holland–although it’s starting to look like it!

  17. #15. Give Mayor Mancuso credit for his mistakes

    1. Jane Reilly’s major disaster , she was the beginning of this town going down hill so much

  18. James:

Jane Reilly’s major disaster , she was the beginning of this town going down hill so much

She was the worst mayor in Ridgewood’s history, but Aronsohn is gaining ground fast.

  19. it’s all a scam . the 3 stooges and the hand pick manager and the county boss are out of the loop.
