Englewood NJ, a quiet morning in Englewood turned into a scene of heroism and narrow escapes on Friday, March 6, 2026. A massive second-alarm fire ripped through a two-story apartment building on Coriander Way, leaving three residents trapped and forcing a daring rescue.
As flames engulfed the primary exits, Englewood Fire Department (EFD) crews acted fast, using portable ladders to pull the occupants from the second floor just moments before the roof collapsed.
The Rescue: “Exits Cut Off by Heavy Fire”

Apartment Safety: What You Need to Know
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly fire can move. Local fire officials urge residents to review their home safety plans:
-
Know Your Two Ways Out: If your primary exit is blocked by fire, do you have a secondary window or fire escape?
-
Close Before You Doze: Keeping bedroom doors closed can slow the spread of smoke and heat, giving you more time to be rescued.
-
Visible Address: Ensure your apartment number is clearly visible so first responders can find you quickly in an emergency.
