Saddle Brook NJ, in a dramatic act of bravery, two Saddle Brook police officers rescued multiple dogs from a house fire on John Ochs Drive Monday afternoon after a patio blaze quickly spread to the home.
According to Saddle Brook Police Chief John Zotollo, officers Theodore Skordinsky and Christopher Reece were the first on scene around 4:27 PM, after emergency dispatch received reports of a patio fire threatening a residential structure.
Quick Action Saves Pets from Flames
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the fire had already engulfed part of the house — and the homeowner’s dogs were trapped inside. Without hesitation, Skordinsky and Reece rushed to the front door, opened it, and safely freed the pets, who fled from the smoke-filled home.
“The quick and brave actions of these officers most likely saved the homeowner’s pets,” said Chief Zotollo. “These officers continue to show their commitment and professionalism while serving the residents of Saddle Brook.”
Multi-Town Fire Response
Firefighters from Saddle Brook, Fair Lawn, Rochelle Park, and Wallington responded to the blaze, working together to contain the fire and prevent further damage. The Saddle Brook Office of Emergency Management and the Volunteer Ambulance Corps also supported operations on site.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported among residents or first responders. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Community Applauds Police and Firefighters
This incident is a strong reminder of the critical role local police and firefighters play in safeguarding not only lives but also beloved pets. The community has praised the rapid response and selfless actions of Officers Skordinsky and Reece.

Sad in a lot of ways, but do a Google search and you’ll see a beautifully maintained home. Horrible for the family.
