Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ – The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department recently gave a much-deserved shoutout to a local student whose community spirit and hard work are truly setting an example. Caitlynn, a dedicated member of Girl Scout Troop #96671 from Northern Highlands Regional High School, is well on her way to earning the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award—and her project has already made a beautiful, lasting impact.
Restoring History, Spreading Kindness
Caitlynn’s Gold Award project beautifully merged community service with historical preservation. As part of her initiative:
- She masterfully restored an old rowboat, breathing new life into a piece of local history.
- She generously donated the completed rowboat to the Hermitage Museum in Ho-Ho-Kus, ensuring her work benefits the entire community.
- In a touching gesture of gratitude, Caitlynn also treated local police officers to her homemade chocolate chip cookies, spreading a little kindness and recognition to those who serve.
The Ho-Ho-Kus Police praised her efforts, saying her “dedication, creativity, and kindness truly shine.” Her journey is a testament to the powerful impact young leaders can have right in their own backyard.
The Power of the Girl Scout Gold Award
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, representing thousands of hours of effort, planning, and leadership. Gold Award Girl Scouts are, as the organization describes, “rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes.”
To earn the award, girls must tackle a significant problem in their community or make a lasting, sustainable change in their world. It requires:
- Identifying a genuine issue that requires deep investigation.
- Developing a unique solution that creates measurable impact.
- Leading a team of volunteers and trusted adults to carry out the project.
This unique program ensures that every Girl Scout who pursues the Gold Award gains invaluable leadership skills and the confidence to implement large-scale change. There is no other youth development program quite like it.
Incredible work, Caitlynn! We wish you the very best of luck as you complete this amazing journey toward becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout.
