RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The Ridgewood Public Schools community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Cadet Neil Edara, a 2021 graduate of Ridgewood High School and a beloved U.S. Army ROTC Cadet. Neil passed away suddenly during training exercises at Fort Knox, serving his country with honor and commitment.
Neil, a proud Ridgewood native, was known for his leadership, character, and dedication—qualities that left a lasting mark on classmates, educators, and neighbors alike.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Schwarz shared a heartfelt message with the community, expressing his condolences and admiration for Neil’s life and service. “I thanked Neil’s mother, Vara Edara, for her family’s sacrifice and shared how proud we are of Neil,” said Dr. Schwarz. “We will do everything we can to ensure Neil is remembered and honored.”

The Ridgewood Board of Education is also offering the Education Center parking lot at 49 Cottage Place for additional public and press parking. The Education Center will be open on Friday for restroom access and a place to cool off during the ceremony.
