Ridgewood NJ, the community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood, NJ, is celebrating a significant honor! This brand-new, prestigious award will be presented for the first time at the “Living The Gospel Recognition Reception” on December 3rd.
Who is St. Carlo Acutis? The Patron Saint of the Internet
The award is named after St. Carlo Acutis, the young Italian Catholic teenager who died in 2006 and was recently canonized as the first millennial saint. A “computer genius” and enthusiastic gamer, Carlo famously used his tech skills—including teaching himself coding—to create a viral website cataloging Eucharistic miracles around the world.
Known for the quote, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven,” St. Carlo is a powerful role model for modern young people, demonstrating how technology can be used as a tool for spreading the Gospel rather than a distraction from faith.
The St. Carlo Acutis Award is specifically given to a parish in the Archdiocese of Newark for its “commitment, dedication and evangelization to young people.” By naming the award after this digital-age saint, the Archdiocese highlights the importance of innovative and committed youth ministry in today’s world.
