In Loving Memory: Youssef (Joseph) Nissan of Ramsey

Ramsey NJ — With heavy hearts, the family and friends of Youssef Nissan, affectionately known as Joseph, announce his sudden and untimely passing on June 21, 2025, at the age of 25. Born in Ridgewood and raised in Ramsey, Youssef was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him — remembered for his boundless compassion, vibrant spirit, and the joy he brought to others.

🎓 A Life of Love, Learning, and Kindness

Born on January 26, 2000, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Youssef was a proud graduate of Ramsey High School Class of 2018. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rowan University in 2023.

His obituary reflects the essence of his life:

“Youssef brought immeasurable joy, laughter, and light into the lives of everyone who knew him. From an early age, he was known for his adventurous spirit, his kind and compassionate heart, and his remarkable ability to make others feel truly seen, heard, and loved.”

💛 Community Support & Fundraiser

In the wake of Youssef’s passing, a GoFundMe campaign organized by close friend Gustavo Palacio has raised over $10,000 to assist with funeral and memorial expenses.

“My hope is to help relieve some of the financial burden that his parents are facing during this incredibly difficult time,” Palacio shared. “Thank you for your support, your kindness, and for helping honor Youssef’s memory.”

🕊️ A Legacy of Love

Youssef is survived by his loving parents, Yacoub Nissan of Wayne, NJ; Nada Eliya Wood, and stepfather George Wood of Ramsey, NJ. He is also survived by his dear uncle Sami Jamil Eliya and his wife Diane, along with cousins Carol, James, Helen, and Steven Eliya of Ridgewood.

He will also be remembered by his uncles Afram Nissan (Sweden), Malki Nissan (Germany), and aunts Janet, Souad, and Juliette, all of Germany. Youssef was predeceased by his beloved grandfather Jamil Hanna Eliya, his uncle Manasa, and his aunt Samia, who are now reunited with him in peace.

  • Public Memorial Service:
    🕚 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church
    📍 722 E Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ
    A reception will follow in the church hall.
