EDGEWATER, NJ — A quiet Saturday morning along the Hudson River was interrupted by a police investigation after a body was discovered on the popular Hudson River Waterfront Walkway.
The discovery was made on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m. Authorities were called to the scene near the Edgewater Commons Mall (555 River Road) after receiving a report of an unresponsive male on a bench behind the shopping complex.
Preliminary Findings: No Foul Play Suspected
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Edgewater Police Department quickly secured the area. While the scene initially caused concern among weekend joggers and local residents, officials have moved to ease fears of a criminal threat.
Jeff Angermeyer, Deputy Chief of Detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, stated that preliminary information indicates the death is not criminal in nature.
“Preliminary information indicates that the death is not criminal in nature; however, the investigation will continue as detectives verify facts and details,” Angermeyer said.
