Glern Rock NJ, a Glen Rock resident recently became the target of a sophisticated identity theft scheme that spanned across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The fraudster successfully bypassed security to purchase high-end iPhones, sparking a multi-agency police investigation.
The Heist: From Glen Rock to the Lehigh Valley
On February 3, a Glen Rock local alerted authorities that their Verizon Wireless account had been compromised. Armed with the victim’s stolen credentials, the scammer embarked on a high-stakes shopping spree:

The Hit: The fraudster successfully purchased an iPhone 17 Pro Max at an Apple Store in the Lehigh Valley, PA, charging the premium device directly to the victim’s cellular account.

The Near Misses: Ambition didn’t stop there. The scammer attempted to buy a second phone at a Verizon store in Easton, PA, and tried to coordinate a third pickup for an iPhone 17 in State College, PA. Fortunately, these last two transactions were flagged or blocked.
Multi-State Investigation Underway
The Glen Rock Police Department Detective Bureau is currently working alongside the State College Police Department to track the suspect. This case highlights a growing trend of “Account Takeover” (ATO) fraud, where scammers use stolen personal data to make high-value hardware purchases through wireless providers.
