>Many residents have indicated that a parking garage is not needed in downtown Ridgewood. Improvements to existing surface parking lots would suffice, they say. Others say “yes” to a garage, but “no” to its proposed location on North Walnut Street. What do you think?
Do we really need a 50 foot high parking structure, and is North Walnut Street the right place to build it?
>Parking is clearly an issue in Ridgewood. Business owners continually complain that customers do not have sufficient parking and it literally drives business away.
Parking enforcement is unbelievable – A force of 20 parking attendants to enforce what at most 500 parking meters.
What was the result of the parking study I’m sure we paid at least $20,000.00 for – “We need more parking” DUH! – but how many spots and what will the result be – We are taking away @ 100 spots to provide 300.
Parking is only a problem from 10 – 8pm – most significantly around lunch and dinner because of the 100 + restaurants in town. What if there was a shuttle around town during these high traffic times?
How much are they going to charge me to use this garage once it is built? I am paying the village employees and elected officials to spend time to move this along to have a private company build it and charge me more money to park in it. If it was free to village residents you could put three up around town. Knock down Sealfons or Pompanouscous and put a 5 story garage their that looks like a Hotel on the exterior and lets call it a day and charge the out of towners the money since we are already forking over enough money in property taxes.
How about a 50 foot parking garage over the train station parking lot – Like that would ever happen – How about next to the 40 foot building in the middle of town by the bus station – you could possibly go two stories down and 5 up and it would blend in perfectly with everything else. But I haven’t seen the studies.
>Make all of the side streets one way, with angled parking. Problem solved at very little cost.
>There are two full time parking officers and one part time parking officer. Not twenty.
>1. What is the Wells Associates trying to do in Ridgewood? They are trying to lease the Pease Library from the Village for no fee; except to restore it over a ten year period for their estimate of $1 million dollars. Why did we let it go to state of disrepair?
2. Wells also purchased the “Towne Garage” on Franklin Avenue; I believe to secure property for a Parking facility. The town has been talking about building a parking garage and I don’t see why they don’t build it on an already existing parking area (there is one adjacent to Towne Garage) that the Village already owns without spending millions on a new property. They could also build on the parking area on Broad street what used to be the Old Firehouse.
3. We should have a moratorium on the amount of eating establishments because customers spend too much time in these establishments causing most parking problems.
>Illegally enrolled students is a significant problem here in Ridgewood. It’s a problem that’s very difficult to prove, and the burden of proof lies with the Village. The parents of these kids live out of town, but they set up fake residential documentation using the addresses of a relative in Ridgewood. If none of this bothers you, then don’t whine the next time your taxes go up.
