Ridgewood NJ, The Village of Ridgewood just received a major financial “green light” for its mission to provide 100% lead-free water. Working alongside New Jersey’s congressional delegation, U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim have secured $1.535 million in federal funding specifically for Ridgewood’s lead remediation efforts.

This grant is part of a larger $123.2 million federal package for Fiscal Year 2026, aimed at revitalizing infrastructure across 133 projects in New Jersey.

A Crucial Step Toward the 2031 Deadline

Under New Jersey law, all public water systems are mandated to replace lead and galvanized service lines by 2031. While this is a massive undertaking, the newly secured funds provide critical relief for local taxpayers.

“We were thrilled to receive this news,” said Rich Calbi, Director of Ridgewood Water. “These funds will help offset the cost of replacing lead service lines throughout our four-town service area—Glen Rock, Midland Park, Ridgewood, and Wyckoff.”

  1. How much does it cost to do each household?

    1. If you opt into Ridgewood Water’s program, it costs $2,800 if you pay the full invoice upon completion of work. Residents can also finance thru RW over an extended # of years. With this program, RW field engineers oversee the work, which is subcontracted to REIMAX.
One if my clients recently had their line replaced thru this program, and it was a relatively smooth process.
Although the State-mandated deadline for replacement is 2031, Ridgewood residents Selling their property after June 1, 2026 must opt into RW’s program, or have the work done by a private contractor.
      Hope this helps.

  2. Will Rwd water repave the streets (as PSEG does) or will all these streets become pothole paradise in a year

    1. Probably with the same “quality” that PSE&G does……………..

  3. so why is it costing $2800 if we got $1.53 million.

It costs $2800 for a private contractor to replace the lead pipe.

where is the money going ?
