Gaza City ,the long, painful search for answers following the October 7, 2023, attacks has reached a somber milestone. Yesterday, Israel confirmed the recovery of the remains of the final hostage held in Gaza—a development that many hope will clear the remaining hurdles for a lasting regional peace.
A High-Stakes Recovery Mission
The recovery of the 24-year-old special forces officer, who was killed during the initial Hamas assault, was the result of an intensive and sensitive military operation. To identify the fallen soldier, Israeli forces conducted a large-scale operation in a northern Gaza cemetery, exhuming and testing more than 250 bodies to ensure every captive was accounted for.
