LITTLE FALLS, NJ — Want to honor baseball icon Yogi Berra and help break a Guinness World Record? The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center is calling on fans to join “Yogi’s Big Catch,” the world’s largest game of catch, on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2025, at Yogi Berra Stadium on the Montclair State University campus.

“Make a game plan and stick to it. Unless it’s not working.”

The event celebrates what would have been Berra’s 100th birthday, uniting families, friends, and baseball fans in a simple but powerful tribute to the New York Yankees legend.

How the Record-Breaking Game of Catch Works

The museum hopes to gather 2,000 participants (1,000 pairs) to toss baseballs back and forth for five minutes straight, standing 10 feet apart. Dropped balls are allowed, but everyone must keep playing.

Each pair’s $25 registration includes:

  • Commemorative Rawlings baseballs

  • Event T-shirts

  • Topps baseball card packs

  • Snacks and drinks

Don’t have a glove? No problem — loaner gloves will be available.

Star Power at the Event

The game will be emceed by Bob Costas and will feature appearances by former Yankees greats including:

  • Ron Guidry

  • Willie Randolph

  • Bernie Williams

After the record attempt, the Yogi Berra Museum will open to the public free of charge, with Berra’s Hall of Fame plaque on display for one day only, on loan from Cooperstown.

More Than Just Catch: Family Fun & Food

Fans can enjoy games and activities throughout the stadium, including:

  • Batting cage and base running

  • Speed-throw challenges

  • Baseball card trading tables

  • Prizes, including custom-made Bradley baseball gloves and New York Yankees tickets

Food trucks will also be on hand, serving pizza, burgers, Mexican favorites, Sicilian rice balls, ice cream, and Italian ices.

A Fitting Tribute to Yogi’s Legacy

“Bringing the community together for a game of catch felt like the most authentic way to celebrate Yogi’s life and legacy,” said Eve Schaenen, executive director of the museum.

Lindsay Berra, Yogi’s granddaughter, added: “My grandfather always connected with baseball fans everywhere. Continuing that connection through the simple act of playing catch is the perfect way to honor him.”
