Kean University Sets Record With Nearly 19,000 Students for Fall 2025, Launches New AI and Ph.D. Programs

UNION, NJ — Kean University, New Jersey’s urban research university, has achieved a historic milestone with nearly 19,000 students enrolled worldwide for the Fall 2025 semester — the largest student body in the University’s history.

With over 20,000 applications received this year, Kean continues to solidify its reputation as a Carnegie R2 research university, attracting students from 36 states and 69 countries.

Record-Breaking Enrollment Across Programs

This year’s student body includes about 4,100 new students:

  • 2,000 freshmen

  • 1,450 transfer students

  • 670 new graduate students

Several academic programs saw record enrollment, including:

  • Psychology

  • Biological Sciences

  • Accounting

  • Criminal Justice

  • Marketing

  • Early Childhood Education

The Department of Health and Human Performance saw especially strong growth, reaching 800+ students, compared to just 276 students four years ago.

Innovation Driving Kean’s Growth

Kean University’s rapid expansion is fueled by student access, affordability, academic innovation, and global opportunities.

This fall, Kean is launching:

  • New Jersey’s first Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (one of only a few nationwide)

  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science

  • A new Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence

“These new programs reflect Kean’s innovative spirit and our drive to stay ahead of the curve in meeting student and workforce needs,” said Michael Salvatore, Ph.D., executive vice president for academic and administrative operations.

  • Nearly 5,000 students are enrolled at Wenzhou-Kean University in China

  • Growing student numbers at Kean Ocean in Toms River

  • Expanded offerings through Kean Online

  1. At least 10,000, maybe more, are just wasting their parents’ money. Psychology? I never met one that wasn’t mental. Consider computer training, medical/dental training, or your local trade schools. Money well spent, and saving tens of thousands in student loans.
