Wayne NJ, a violent incident rocked the Lakeview Learning Center in Wayne on Monday, when a student allegedly stabbed another during a lunchtime altercation. The victim, a 14-year-old student, was hospitalized with serious injuries following the attack.
According to the Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched to the private school located on Van Duyne Avenue at approximately 12:38 p.m. on May 19 after receiving reports of a stabbing.
Victim Hospitalized After Sustaining Chest Wounds
Police say the teenage victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest and was bleeding heavily upon arrival. Emergency medical services transported the student to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where surgery was performed the same day.
“The victim was in surgery at the time of this press release,” officials stated in an update issued at 5:21 p.m.
Suspect in Custody: 18-Year-Old Faces Multiple Charges
Authorities have arrested Rayshawn Christian, an 18-year-old student from Elizabeth, in connection with the incident. Police located Christian on the lower level of the school, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
The weapon believed to be used—a knife—was recovered at the scene.

The incident occurred during lunch break inside the school cafeteria, prompting a shelter-in-place order as a precautionary measure. The school and law enforcement worked swiftly to secure the premises and ensure student safety during the event.
