The drive honors the memory of Gary Letizia, a beloved Ramsey resident whose life was extended by countless blood transfusions as he bravely battled leukemia. While he passed away in 2019, his need for blood during his fight highlighted the constant, essential demand for donors.
Keeping the Legacy Alive
Leading this crucial effort is his son, Dr. Matthew Letizia. As an emergency medicine physician and medical director for over a dozen New Jersey police, fire, and EMS agencies, Dr. Letizia understands the vital role blood plays in emergency and long-term care.
In coordination with New Jersey Blood Services, Dr. Letizia has transformed his father’s memory into one of the state’s most significant blood donation sources.
“My father’s life was prolonged because of the generosity of strangers,” Dr. Letizia often notes. “This drive is our way of giving back and ensuring others get the same chance.”
