Ridgewood NJ, When the artificial turf was first installed several years ago, weren’t the residential neighbors (particularly residents of adjacent Meadowbrook Avenue) told that there would be NO permanent lights installed at Maple Field?
Parks & Recreation Director Nancy Bigos told Village Council Members on May 1st that she expected the field to be lit until 9:30 PM, 7 days each week.

First comes artificial turf then artificial lighting then artificial people.
I thought that when the field was first donated there was a promise by Jack Carol that there would be no light ?
At the council meeting last Wednesday, Knudsen said wildlife and people require darkness. The council will notify the neighbors and ask how they feel about the lighting being on until 9:30 p.m. everyday.
Will they also ask the wildlife how they feel?
Jack Carroll…that’s a name from the past.
I forget the name of the mayor that stopped the athletic encroachment by using the phrase of ‘quality of life.’ Ramon and Susan should invoke this phrase.
The residents get screwed every time.
When real estate agents sell houses around there after lighting is installed will they tell the prospective buyers about the lighting? ha ha
They need to pick up the litter . Water bottle s all over the place.
Let’s put in Stadium Seating and Skyboxes.

… don’t be Luddites!

There are lights there now, run by diesel powered generators that are noisy and air polluters. Pick your poison.
James – don’t lay on that stuff….you wouldn’t believe what accumulates on that surface over time…
James, you are killing me with the photo!!!
The dieseled powered generators are not lighting the neighborhood until 9:30 at night seven days a week all year. Pick your poison is right. Take the diesel.
Portable lights vs. permanent lights? Pick your poison? How about no lights – that’s the best choice in my opinion.
But more importantly, how can I get a pair of the slides James is wearing in the photo!
How about putting in more portable toilets. Because one is not enough. And that’s only cleaned once a week always disgusting. Anyways feel free and full of poop. That one needs to be cleaned at least three times a week. I’d rather go to the bathroom in the parking lot. As a Taxpayer and field user. I don’t know who is in charge of parks and recreation but they don’t see this. Open up your eyes.
Biggos is cut from the Cronin/Rutishauser cloth. Sadly, the powers that be protect their PERSONAL interest before standing up and doing what is right for residents and the future of our community.
Bigos is the worst. She is management that has no clue
As far as the little things like making sure the fields are kept up whether it is have her employees pick up bottles or clean the Porto potties she could care less BUT let’s just keep screwing everyone who lives by a park because she doesn’t care. NIMBY and DIM That is her! How on Earth did someone like her get such a high position?
Habernickle parking lot has stadium lighting that stays on till 10pm 365 days a year. This park has no Ridgewood sponsored events after dusk. The reason for the lights is for the business in the gatehouse which is a private for profit company. Talk about unfair to a neighborhood houses on Andover are closer to the parking lot then any home near Maple field. The lights shine into the back of homes where most kitchens & family living spaces are. The village put shields on the lights to try to make it less obtrusive to those families on Andover…..it made no difference because the light poles are so tall. At least the lights at Maple are for the safety of our residents who play sports unlike Habernickle where the lights are for a non resident business owner.
Awful and uncaring. Sports be damned. Quality of life is more important. What a nerve.
Might as well put in the speakers for the sound system at the same time…we need louder ones than the ones at Vets. Those can only be heard to about Spring Ave. we need something loud enough so the entire town can hear when Timmy scores a goal in 3rd grade soccer.
I live on Andover. Those lights were going in regardless. Not because of Health Barn. The town put them in for “safety in the parking lot” no matter what. I am surprised that is not the case at Maple/ Grayson although the town may have determined those parking areas are lit well enough already.
Yeah let’s ask the owls Dr dolittle. Knudsen is right about animals needing darkness or they leave the park. Owls and bats eat mice and mosquitos that’s nature’s balance. No reason to notify the wildlife. The animals will just disappear. Keep lighting up the city of Ridgewood and see your urban dreams come alive. Bad enough Habernickel glows all night.
Coincidence that Habernickel got lights 6 years after they were proposed but as soon as a lucrative business ( private for business owners personnel gain only ) came to town YET village families picked up in the dark at maple for many many years. Not coincidence it is favors by parks and rec for friends ( healthbarn owner )
The lights at Habernickel are ridiculous. Not nice little box lites like at the small vets lot. Those poor people.
But let’s talk about how much money that business brings back to the town. Can’t be much since there are very few partnership classes a year but seems to be at least 20 or so classes a week where all the income goes directly to the owner??? Is this true??? And field trip, birthday parties and dinner parties.??? All for the owner. Not ridgewood???
I was told none of these programs that run 6 days a week Share revenue with ridgewood???
Why is this in our towns park????
