RIDGEWOOD, NJ – Don’t be surprised if you spot camera crews, bright lights, or even a few familiar faces in Ridgewood this summer! Several readers noticed a sign at the Ridgewood Park & Ride stating that from July 28 through August 12, the south lot will be permit parking only.
But here’s the twist – it’s not for commuter permits. According to a reliable source, Netflix will be using the parking lot during filming. Whether it’s serving as a production base or an actual filming location remains unclear, but one thing’s certain: Ridgewood is buzzing with entertainment activity.
Adding to the excitement, Netflix has reportedly been filming at the hospital nearby.
Hollywood in Ridgewood: From “The Housemaid” to Netflix Productions
This isn’t Ridgewood’s first brush with the big screen. Back in January, locals were starstruck when Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and North Jersey native Brandon Sklenar were spotted filming the upcoming Lionsgate thriller “The Housemaid.”
The psychological thriller, based on Freida McFadden’s New York Times bestselling novel, follows Millie Calloway (played by Sweeney), a maid who discovers dark secrets about her wealthy employers Nina and Andrew Winchester (played by Seyfried and Sklenar).
Filming kicked off at Green Way Markets in Ridgewood before moving on to other New Jersey hotspots, including Morristown, Montclair, Cresskill, and a studio in Jersey City.
Director Paul Feig, known for Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor, was spotted with the crew in Ridgewood during production.
Ridgewood: A Film-Friendly Community
Village Manager Keith Kazmark says Ridgewood has become a film-friendly community, attracting more and more productions.
“It’s a quaint town with a lot to offer filmmakers. We’ve had ‘This Old House,’ an Amazon back-to-school commercial, and even ‘Swipe’ with Jon Hamm and Amanda Peet shoot here. Ridgewood is becoming a go-to filming location.”
With historic charm, suburban streetscapes, and proximity to New York City, Ridgewood offers an ideal backdrop for both TV and film.
Bergen County Welcomes Filmmakers
The Bergen County Film Office, launched in 2019, continues to promote the area as a prime location for productions. From the Ramapo forests to the Palisades cliffs, Bergen County provides a diverse range of settings, all within easy access to NYC and major airports.
Filmmakers can easily obtain permits for county parks, facilities, and even historic locations. For inquiries, the Bergen County Film Office can be reached at BCFilmOffice@bergencountynj.gov or 201-336-7325.
Lights, Camera, Action! Ridgewood on the Rise
With Netflix moving in and Lionsgate productions already in motion, Ridgewood is officially on the Hollywood radar. Local businesses benefit from the filming boom, while residents get to experience the excitement of seeing their town on the big screen.
So, if you spot trailers, crew members, or maybe even a star or two around town, don’t be surprised—Ridgewood is rolling out the red carpet.

Actually, there will be no parking at all in the south lot at the Route 17 park-and-ride during those dates. Don’t waste your time trying to get a permit; none are being issued.
Better empty our garbage cans !
