The New Milford Police Department is urging the community to exercise extreme caution after reports of a chilling new criminal tactic designed to incapacitate drivers

New Milfrod NJ, criminals are reportedly placing white strings or small pieces of tape—suspected to be laced with fentanyl—on the hoods and door handles of parked vehicles. This calculated move targets the driver’s natural instinct to remove the debris before getting into their car.
⚠️ How the Tactic Works
According to local law enforcement, this is not just a prank; it is a precursor to serious crimes, including carjackings, robberies, and even kidnappings.
-
The Trap: A driver approaches their car and notices a string or piece of tape on the hood or handle.
-
The Exposure: As soon as the driver touches the object to discard it, the potent synthetic opioid (fentanyl) can potentially be absorbed or transferred, leading to a rapid and severe medical emergency or overdose.
-
The Opportunity: While the victim is disoriented or incapacitated, criminals waiting nearby move in to carry out their crimes.
🛡️ Critical Safety Tips for Residents
The New Milford PD is asking everyone to stay vigilant and follow these “No-Touch” protocols:
-
Inspect Your Vehicle: Before approaching your car, do a quick 360-degree walk-around. Look for anything out of place, such as strings, tape, or zip ties.
-
Do Not Touch: If you see a foreign object on your vehicle, do not attempt to remove it with your bare hands.
-
Use a Tool: If removal is necessary, use a stick, a car wash squeegee, or heavy gloves—though it is best to leave the area immediately if you feel unsafe.
-
Call the Police: If you find a suspicious object on your car, get to a safe location and call the New Milford Police Department at 201-261-1400.
🚔 The Importance of “Situational Awareness”
In addition to checking your vehicle, police emphasize the importance of staying aware of your surroundings in parking lots. Avoid looking at your phone while walking to your car and keep your keys in your hand.
Note on Safety: While medical experts often note that skin absorption of fentanyl is difficult without prolonged contact, the risk of accidental ingestion (touching your mouth or nose after touching the string) is extremely high and can be fatal.

these criminals need to be put away for life
Not severe enough…
The death penalty would be more appropriate in this case!
This is fearmongering at it’s best. Fentanyl (especially lethal doses) can’t be absorbed transdermally and every cop who reportedly has a reaction like this is having a panic attack. Pure misinformation by the New Milford Police and whoever posted should have to make a public apology.
do you represent the drug dealer union ?
No, I work in healthcare. Struggling on the front line of the public’s stupidity. The opiod crisis is real, addiction is terrible, but this is spreading false information. I couldn’t even find it on NMPD’s page.
local cartel speaks
do you work for a Venezuelan drug cartel ?
Wrong! They make fentanyl patches for pain management.
