Ridgewood NJ, the years-long closure of a critical Ridgewood footpath is officially over! The Kingsbridge Lane Pedestrian Bridge has been fully reinstalled and is now open to the public, marking a major triumph for local infrastructure and the residents who championed its restoration.

Earlier today, the Ridgewood Village Council gathered to ceremonially open the bridge, concluding a saga that has deeply impacted local foot traffic.

A Community Victory: From Closure to Restoration

The Kingsbridge Lane bridge, which provides a vital connection across the waterway, was closed for repairs and replacement due to extensive damage. Its restoration became a passionate community issue, and officials were keen to recognize the effort that went into the project.

“Thank you to our Engineering Division and all the residents who passionately advocated to repair and refurbish the bridge,” stated local officials during the ceremony.

The successful reinstallation and opening signifies the end of a long period of uncertainty, with the new structure designed to serve pedestrians safely and reliably for decades to come.

Final Touches and Safety Clearance

While the bridge is physically back in place and welcoming pedestrians, the successful reopening required meticulous final steps by construction and engineering crews to ensure long-term public safety:

  • Permanent Securing: Permanently anchoring the new structure to the existing abutments.

  • Approach Work: Seamlessly connecting the new structure to the existing pathways on Kingsbridge Lane.

  • Safety Barriers: Installation of new railings and protective barriers meeting modern standards.

  • Inspections: Final engineering and municipal safety clearances.

The successful completion of these final tasks means the bridge is officially ready for use, restoring a crucial link for residents.

Restoring a Vital Pedestrian Connection

The opening of the Kingsbridge Lane Pedestrian Bridge is more than just a repair job; it is the restoration of community connectivity. It allows residents to safely resume foot traffic, improving walkability and accessibility within the neighborhood.

This project stands as a testament to the dedication of the Village’s engineering staff and the persuasive advocacy of local residents who ensured this piece of infrastructure was not lost.

  5. Well, if it’s someone that isn’t an employee already then you know that individual is gonna be the new puppet , he or she better be ready be the new yes man or woman to say yes to the mayor and council. And that individual better be a professional ask sucker. And if it’s someone from the outside, that doesn’t know what’s going on oh boy I feel sorry for that. Because in five years you’re gonna be burnt they should hire someone that’s already fat, bald and burnt out, because that’s what’s gonna happen to the new individual. Oh yes.

  8. I will say walking over the bridge today the company that restored the Exxon job. But our engineering director should be completely embarrassed. He did say it cannot be restored. He wanted to spend over $1 million to get a new one.. hummmmm, why was he gonna get a kick back?

  9. If Jovan takes over Engineering and DPW how will he handle the fact that his family’s company would be working for the village. Is that a conflict? Would be favoritism.
