Mahwah NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 32-year-old CHRISTIAN D. ORTIZ of the Bronx, NY, on the charge of terroristic threats. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Mahwah Police Department, under the direction of Chief Timothy O’Hara.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit was notified by the Mahwah Police Department of threats that were received by a Mahwah resident on a social media application. Accordingly, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit initiated a joint investigation with the Mahwah Police Department and traced the online activity to CHRISTIAN D. ORTIZ in the Bronx, NY.
On Friday, October 3, 2025, as a result of the investigation, CHRISTIAN D. ORTIZ surrendered to detectives at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and he was charged with third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3(b). ORTIZ was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Mahwah Police Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security: Homeland Security Investigations – Violent Crimes Task Force, and the New York City Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
