Firefighting Efforts & Evacuation Response

By 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, fire crews had the blaze only 10% contained, despite the deployment of local, county, and state fire services. The fire’s speed and intensity caused widespread panic, prompting evacuations and shutting down major roadways, including a section of the Garden State Parkway, leading to severe traffic disruptions.

 Homes and Infrastructure at Risk

The wildfire has threatened over 1,320 structures across the affected townships and caused thousands of power outages as flames encroached on neighborhoods and utility lines. Thick, white smoke plumes blanketed the skies, dramatically reducing air quality and visibility throughout the region.

Evacuation Shelters Established

Emergency shelters were quickly established to accommodate displaced residents:

  • Southern Regional High School – 105 Cedar Bridge Road, Manahawkin, NJ

  • Manchester Township High School – 101 Hawks Way, Manchester, NJ

Local officials and volunteers are providing food, water, and temporary accommodations while firefighting crews work around the clock to contain the flames.
