PATERSON & PROSPECT PARK, NJ — A major 30-inch water main break near Hinchcliffe Stadium has left thousands of residents in Paterson and Prospect Park under a boil water advisory, the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) announced Friday.
The advisory, now expanded to cover all residents and businesses in both communities, means water must be boiled for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, washing food, or brushing teeth. Officials are also urging residents to:

Discard any uncooked food or ice made with tap water during the advisory.

Avoid swallowing water while bathing or showering.

Use a bleach solution to rinse hand-washed dishes.

Avoid relying solely on home water filters, which do not remove all harmful microorganisms.
Montvale Mayor & Wegmans Step Up to Help
When Prospect Park Mayor Mohamed T. Khairullah reached out for help, Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali answered immediately. Recognizing the urgent need for clean drinking water, Mayor Ghassali coordinated with Wegmans in Montvale, which donated six pallets of 35-count bottled water cases.
Within an hour, Wegmans employees — led by Nick and Max — had the donation ready for delivery. Mayor Khairullah expressed his gratitude:
“A big thank you to the generous donation from Wegmans in Montvale, made possible through the advocacy of my good friend, Mayor Mike Ghassali. Distribution will continue until 8 PM today with one case per housing unit.”
