Maywood Man, 21, Dies After Edgewater E-Bike Crash

Edgewater NJ, A 21-year-old Maywood man, identified as Johnathan Torres, has tragically died from injuries sustained in an electric dirt bike crash in Edgewater, New Jersey.

According to Edgewater Police Chief Donald Martin, the crash occurred around 3:37 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, near 725 River Road, across from the popular SoJo Spa Club.

Details of the Edgewater E-Bike Crash

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Torres with serious injuries after reportedly losing control of his Sur-ron electric dirt bike and striking a fixed object.

  • Emergency response teams from Cliffside Park EMS and Englewood Hospital paramedics treated Torres at the scene.

  • He was then transported to Hackensack University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit, where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday, July 15.

Chief Martin confirmed that Torres was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Importantly, no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Ongoing Investigation

The incident remains under investigation by the Edgewater Police Department, with assistance from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Authorities are continuing to gather evidence to determine what caused the young man to lose control of the e-bike.

  1. Unfortunately I don’t think this is the end of these accidents. I’ve seen young kids with no helmets riding these bikes. No even old enough to get a drivers license but they were in the street

    1. Yep, I done saw a youth riding a bi-cycle in the street myself the other day

  2. Personally I think Johnathan Torres e-bike accident was road rage 360 life an app that the family used with each other shows one crash before the fetal cash. He was cut off the first time. And the police is doing nothing.
    He told his friend he was cut off seconds no response.
