Twp. of Washington NJ — Law enforcement officials are searching for a Minnesota man accused of sexually assaulting a teen in three Bergen County towns in the early 1990s after he failed to appear in court for his extradition hearing.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Jed D. Phykitt, 59, a former Bergen County resident who most recently lived in Dalton, Minnesota, was arrested in February 2025 and charged with five counts of second-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors allege that Phykitt assaulted a child between the ages of 13 and 16 on multiple occasions between 1990 and 1991.
The assaults reportedly took place in Washington Township, Hillsdale, and Westwood — all in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Following his arrest in Minnesota by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, Phykitt was held in custody awaiting extradition to New Jersey. However, prosecutors say the court later released him ahead of his August 4 extradition hearing, and he never showed up.
Phykitt is now wanted by both the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for the underlying sexual assault charges.
