MONTVALE, NJ – There’s good news for commuters in northern Bergen County. The southbound entrance ramp to the Garden State Parkway off W. Grand Avenue in Montvale is on track to reopen by the second week of September 2025, according to the latest update from local officials.

🚧 Ramp Closure Timeline and Detours

The ramp was closed for maintenance in early November 2024 by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and was originally expected to remain closed until July 2025. However, ongoing construction extended the closure into late summer.

During the closure, drivers have been redirected to:

  • Chestnut Ridge Road to access the Parkway in Woodcliff Lake

  • Local roads to Washington Township

  • Routes through Upper Saddle River

Traffic lights on Summit Avenue, Chestnut Ridge Road, and Grand Avenue have been adjusted to improve traffic flow and ease left-turn access during the detour period.

🚦 Impact on Local Traffic

Mayor Mike Ghassali acknowledged the inconvenience, saying,

“We regret any frustration this may cause and appreciate your understanding and patience during the project.”

Officials are working closely with the Turnpike Authority to ensure the project stays on schedule and local road congestion is minimized.

When Will the Ramp Reopen?

  • Projected Reopening: Second week of September 2025

  • Reason for Closure: Critical maintenance and safety improvements

  • Goal: Improve long-term traffic flow and ensure ramp structural safety

Once reopened, commuters can expect improved ramp conditions, safer merging, and better overall traffic management in the Montvale area.
