Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police Detective Douglas Henky, who responded to a report of a postal drop box located right in front of the Ridgewood Post Office, 143 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood, having been burglarized with a crow bar.  The postal employee told Henky that the burglary was discovered this morning and 10 pieces of mail were still inside at the time of discovery.  The same box had previously been burglarized on 12/23.  Two (2) other drop boxes adjacent to the post office (on North Walnut Street) were also burglarized within the past week and they have both been taken out of service.

  1. The inept USPS strikes again. Those boxes should have been hardened decades ago.

  2. It takes a big pair to try and rip open a box right in front of the post office …

  3. let’s build a garage so they can drive in the heavy machinery to take out the PO Vault next..anyone who does not walk 20 feet further into the PO inside drop is at Risk

Bye the way there are homeless people in there warming up from 7 am THRU 10 am opening time.sometimes asleep
    with begging cup.very sad.

  4. gave to pay your credit cards on line now or via direct debit for utilities..that day is coming where this will be a requirement ..money paper checks will be discouraged forms of payment..they robs banks too..?.? why

because that is where the money is..in Ridgewood

  5. I haven’t used a mailbox in decades (I go into the post office and drop it in the mail slot).
People have told me that I’m being paranoid…
    .

  6. Where are the police at least in the CBD. They could have been eyeing the Post Office from Van Neste. We need cameras in the CBD and one of the thefts was from inside the Post Office in Ridgewood. It is a federal crime. Also, how about returning the opened envelopes they recover that have the return address still attached? It would alert people to a possible theft of cash and/or checks.

  7. Well if you use the mail slot inside the post office you are not safe. Several people have reported that money was stolen from envelopes mailed inside there.

  8. I have mailed checks for years from inside the post office
first class mail slot with no issues.

there is no security in there from 730am thru 10 am opening of clerks gates .Homeless are in there sleeping and warming up early mornings …they are lost souls but really town and federal government .l am on Ridgewood avenue each morning from645 7 am..it’s a GHOST TOWN
ZERO POLICE OR anyone but commuters waiting for a bus
walking up to make a train .

it’s dark in the early morning …easy pickins..
