Morning Coffee: Flo’s Market to Open inside Ridgewood train station
MARCH 25, 2014 LAST UPDATED: TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2014, 11:00 AM
In less than one month, rail commuters will have the chance to purchase their morning cup of java at the Ridgewood train station – a service that the busiest depot along New Jersey Transit’s Bergen and Main lines has operated without for nearly five years.
Last Wednesday, the Ridgewood Council awarded a two-year lease to Woodcliff Lake-based Be Power LLC, which will operate Flo’s Market inside the station building. The concession stand is an extension of Flo’s Market neighborhood store in Hawthorne.
According to acting Village Manager Heather Mailander, the company will pay the municipality $1,500 per month to use the recently renovated vending area. Mailander said the village requires that the operator open the business within 30 days of awarding the contract.
At an informal walk-through of the facility in January, six separate entities retrieved bid packages to run the coffee station from 5:30 to 10 a.m. during the weekday commute. Four bids were returned by the filing deadline, Mailander said.

I can’t see how this will be sustainable at a rent of $1,500 per month with a fairly short M-F morning window. There are simply too many coffee outlets in the station area already.
I believe the lady who ran the coffee stand before had a much lower overhead.
that’s a lot of money
You’d think the village would be a little more accommodating…maybe take a % of the profits up to some limit instead of a flat rate. But keeping people honest around here is quite a stretch, evidently.
There will be coffee at the station for a couple months then it will shut down.
Using a % of the profits would not work, especially in what is a cash-only business. No disprespect to the vendor in this instance, but believe it or not, most people have a tendency to be a little dishonest when it comes to declaring unverifiable income.
I do agree that this will be a short-lived business venture.
coffee is extremely profitable , if they are open enough hours selling 50 to 100 cups a day at $2 bucks pop should make easy rent
If Flo adds donuts, she should get lots of business from extra duty guys protecting us from Verizon and PSE&G instead of heroin
James: Have you ever run a business? You might want to factor in things like cups, sugar, milk, coffee, equipment, and wages. As for the 50-100 cups at $2 each, that’s a stretch. We aren’t talking fancy coffee here. You can but basic coffee in the station area for $1.25 a cup.
yes many even at $1.25 which is less than Dunkin’ Donuts , sorry this is Ridgewood the cops even drink starbucks , yes you can factor all that other stuff as you say but the fact of the matter is even very good coffee whole sale can be had for under $4 per pound (or less) a pound makes 80-90 cups of coffee if your not selling 50- 100 cups a day in Ridgewood , best to look for a new business idea
Lorraine paid 750.00 a month
Hey #6 if you could be a cop you would do it in a heart beat but you can’t so don’t belittle those who can. Enjoy what you have and don’t be jealous of what others have earned, it makes you look real small in stature and character.
