THE RECORD
The state Supreme Court will hand down its ruling Tuesday in a major legal battle between Governor Christie and public-sector unions who say his move to cut $1.57 billion from pension funding violated workers’ rights.
The high court’s decision will be released at 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from state judiciary officials.
The ruling is expected to have a far-reaching impact on New Jersey’s state finances and workers’ rights. At stake is a pension-reform law Christie signed in his first term, which pledged large payments to the strapped pension system for seven years until the funds regained their health. Christie is asking the court to strike down his law during difficult economic times.
Christie’s pension reform was once his signature legislative achievement, a bipartisan agreement that raised worker costs but also pledged more tax dollars to rescue the pension system from collapse. The Republican governor said it was government at its best, protecting 770,000 pension beneficiaries. To this day, Christie boasts about his “pension reform” efforts on frequent trips out of state as he explores a presidential run.

pay up, it,s not the workers fault. we pay into the fund, we did not take out big money for a mall in the swamp, did we. and that dump is not even open to make money, but it,s sinking right into the dirty swamp , just great.
good luck with that
So you are okay with the State “paying up” knowing that the money doesn’t exist, and that any indebtedness incurred in paying up will be on the backs of all taxpayers, and at a cost of additional cuts to other programs from people who are literally on life’s brink? As long as you get all your money, screw everyone else.
Now you can go on about bank bailouts, greed, etc., like that justifies your agenda.
The first poster is correct. Yes, we paid into the system and we deserve the pension. My PERS pension is $28K. Do you want to take that away from me Declan? How would you feel if this was happening to the pension you had worked for, contributed to, and were counting on in retirement?
Stop in the name of love before you break my heart. Think it over.
If the money is not there then why not place the blame where it belongs on past and present lying politicians who have signed off on these deals for labor peace. They all like to party bout no one wants to pay, just continue to kick the can down the road.
Welcome to the ” state of Detroit”
Feel sorry for #4. Don’t feel sorry for the guys with +$100K public pensions who retired in their early 50s on a full pension and free healthcare. Those guys are the elite 1% and are taking money from the avg TPAF retiree pension $47K and avg PFRS pension $57K… just like CA changed their system, why on earth should anyone in NJ get more than 50% of a maximum final comp of $110K for their pension benefit, and why are they allowed to start drawing that immediately after 25 years? Retire, fine, but these guys should work a private sector job until they turn 60 before they can collect any pension. Unlike when our current retirees started working, life expectancy is now mid-80s for NJ men…. No double-dipping anymore either, that’s just pigging out at taxpayer expense.
12 men in Ridgewood draw a total of $1.3mn in pensions, 9 are former Police & Fire and 3 are former BoE. That doesn’t include any judges, Bergen county retirees or double-dippers… just 12 only from Ridgewood, and that number will double by 2017
#1 said “we did not take out big money for a mall in the swamp, did we. and that dump is not even open to make money, but it’s sinking”… well judging by the recent decision in Rutherford to spend even more money on this unending black hole now called American Dream Meadowlands (ADM)… $675 million of bonds to speed up construction, according to East Rutherford Mayor James Cassella, and About 150 union members attended the council meeting to show their support for the project, said Rick Sabato, president of the Bergen County Building and Construction Trades Council. He said the developer may hire more than 5,000 construction workers….. so the “big money” you’re talking about is so the Democrats like Sweeney (iron workers) and Sarlo (Sanzari Cosntruction) can BUY untion votes. You union thugs are in that swamp up to your eyeballs, it’s taxpayers who continue to get killed by that white elephant, the “‘Ugliest Damn Building’ in New Jersey”
There you go again Charlie Kime….blaming employees for the problem caused by the current and past Governors. You could take away the pensions of the 12 people you mention entirely and that wouldn’t solve anything. The governors balanced their budgets with money they didn’t have the right to use period. And you and every other apathetic voter let them do it. You didn’t give s crap about anything but your own pocket. You didn’t think the theft from the pensions would ever have any impact on you so you didn’t care. Well Charlie now the chickens have come home to roost and you don’t like it! Well tough shit the law is the law suck it up.
Well, according to the latest news, I guess it isn’t “the law”. Suck it up.
A bit of advise Declan
It ain’t over until it’s over – Yogi Berra.
It’s “advice” – and here’s some for you: the days of union thugs stealing from taxpayers are over, so either get with the program or move to Florida like your hack buddies and live off the $100K a year you get along with free health care, and let the adults clean up the mess you’ve made…
Declan thats what I tell the people that are on “life’s brink” especially in Ridgewood.
