Paterson NJ,  With blue skies and perfect weather, the New Jersey Jackals officially launched their 2025 baseball season on Saturday at historic Hinchliffe Stadium, following a weather-related delay on Friday. For fans and players alike, it was worth the wait.

Opening Day is sacred,” said John Hunt, the team’s general manager. “Every time you get to put on the uniform and play professionally, it’s a great experience and a great gift.”

Now in their 27th season overall, fifth in the independent Frontier League, and third season at Hinchliffe, the Jackals are continuing to build momentum—both on the field and in the community.

Rising Attendance and Local Energy

Since relocating from Little Falls to Paterson, attendance has increased sixfold, according to Hunt. The Jackals have become a growing source of local pride and entertainment, drawing crowds with a unique mix of talent, heritage, and showmanship.

“It’s going to be awesome,” said outfielder Arbert Cipion, a Paterson native. “Having my family in the stands, giving out 20, 40, 60 tickets a night, and hearing people chant my name—it’s incredible.”

A Roster of International and Local Talent

The 2025 roster features a diverse mix of international and U.S. players, including:

  • Former MLB draft picks

  • College stars

  • Athletes from Finland, Allentown, Freehold, and Paterson

The local and global talent pool offers fans high-caliber baseball with a personal connection to the city.

Playing on History: Hinchliffe Stadium

Cipion, like many players, is inspired by Hinchliffe Stadium’s legacy—one of the last remaining stadiums to have hosted Negro League baseball games. Located within a national historic park and adjacent to Paterson’s Great Falls, the stadium carries the legacy of baseball icon Larry Doby, the first Black player in the American League.

“You hear about Larry Doby growing up,” Cipion said. “What this field means to the city… it’s beautiful.”

Promotions, Wrestling, and a Whole Lot of Fun

In addition to baseball, the Jackals are amping up fan engagement with exciting promotions and events throughout the season. Opening Night featured live wrestling matches between innings, a nod to the stadium’s history of hosting wrestling and boxing events.

“We try new things,” Hunt said. “It’s about honoring the past while creating new memories.”

Looking Ahead: A Season of High Hopes

With rising fan turnout, a winning mentality, and a focus on community engagement, the Jackals are aiming high this year.

“The Jackals are coming to win,” Cipion said. “And I can’t wait to see you guys here.”
