Newark Man Arrested in Hackensack Shooting Case Following Year-Long Investigation

HACKENSACK, NJBergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Tahjee H. Goodwin, 35, of Newark, in connection with a 2024 shooting incident on Newman Street in Hackensack. The arrest marks the latest development in a year-long joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under Chief Matthew Finck, and the Hackensack Police Department, led by Chief Michael Antista.

🚨 Shooting on Newman Street

On June 24, 2024, at approximately 6:10 p.m., two vehicles drove up to a group gathered on Newman Street and opened fire, striking a parked car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident prompted an intensive investigation due to the severity and risk posed to public safety.

🔍 Multiple Suspects Identified and Arrested

Detectives quickly identified two vehicles involved, registered to Quayyan R. Horton and an associate of Charles E. Kirkland. The investigation uncovered the involvement of Quayyan R. Horton, Charles E. Kirkland, Nafee A. Horton, and Hakeem J. Jones. Arrests were made on:

  • February 14, 2025 – Horton, Kirkland, and Nafee Horton were arrested at their homes in Jersey City and Newark.

  • February 19, 2025 – Jones was charged while already incarcerated in Essex County Jail.

⚖️ Arrest of Tahjee H. Goodwin

Further investigation led detectives to Tahjee H. Goodwin, identified as the fifth suspect in the case. On June 27, 2025, with support from the Division of Parole, Goodwin was arrested without incident in Newark by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Special Investigations Squad.

Goodwin faces charges including:

  • First-degree attempted murder

  • Weapons offenses

He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail, pending a court appearance.

Prosecutor Musella extended thanks to the Essex and Hudson County Prosecutor’s Offices, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Hackensack Police, Division of Parole, and the Newark Police Department for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.

He also reminded the public:

“All charges are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
