PARAMUS, NJ — In an unusual late-night incident, a Newark man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a Shake Shack on Route 17 in Paramus, helping himself to food, and walking away with merchandise — all while dressed in a Shake Shack T-shirt and chef’s hat, authorities say.
📹 Multiple Burglaries Caught on Surveillance
Jermaine Campbell, 26, was taken into custody and charged with burglary and theft after the Paramus Police Department received a report from a store manager around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Campbell entering the closed restaurant multiple times, stealing merchandise, and even cooking food on the grill.
Police say Campbell wasn’t finished.
👨🍳 Dressed for the Job — But Not Employed There
On Monday, Campbell allegedly returned to the scene and attempted to break in again. An employee spotted him and quickly alerted authorities. After a brief search, officers found Campbell hiding nearby, notably wearing a Shake Shack uniform shirt and a chef’s hat at the time of his arrest.
He was transported to Bergen County Jail, according to officials.
🏢 Second Commercial Burglary May Be Connected
Later that same day, police were dispatched to a second commercial burglary at 1 Kalisa Way in Paramus. Surveillance footage appeared to show Campbell inside the building earlier that day after hours. Authorities believe he may have used the space for temporary shelter.
