Spartacus Discovers Financial Planning , Praises ‘Groundbreaking’ Provision!

Ridgewood NJ, Democratic Senator Cory Booker (NJ), a prominent figure with known presidential aspirations, is facing scrutiny for publicly praising a key provision within a major Republican-backed legislative package he fiercely condemned just months ago. The controversy centers on the “Trump Accounts” child investment program, a feature Booker is now calling “groundbreaking” and is actively promoting alongside a leading Republican.

This dramatic shift highlights the complex political reality in Washington: sometimes, highly popular provisions from controversial bills survive the partisan divide.

The Bill Booker Called a “Moral Obscenity”

In July, Senator Booker urged his Democratic colleagues to use “everything in their power to stop” the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” referring to the legislation as a “moral obscenity.” Ultimately, no Democrat voted for the budget law, which passed despite their unified opposition.

Democrats chiefly objected to the bill for:

  • Funneling over $100 billion to border security and immigration enforcement.

  • Expanding existing tax cuts and enacting new tax breaks.

  • Reforming entitlement programs, which Democrats argued was detrimental.

The Pivot: Praising the “Trump Accounts”

Fast forward to the present, and Senator Booker is enthusiastically celebrating a core element of that very law: the Trump Accounts child investment program.

The provision creates a new tax-advantaged account designed to boost economic opportunity for American youth:

  • Initial Investment: The Treasury Department contributes $1,000 for every child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028.

  • Family Contributions: Parents and employers can contribute up to $5,000 per year until the child turns 18. Employer contributions are non-taxable income for the parent.

Booker described the accounts as a “major stride” toward his long-advocated “baby bonds” program, claiming the provision aligns with his policy goals.

Senator Booker: “This is the major stride towards what I’ve been working on… I’m going to encourage people to participate.”

The Dell Donation and Bipartisan Advocacy

Booker’s praise peaked following the announcement of a massive $6.25 billion contribution from tech mogul Michael Dell and his wife, Susan Dell. This philanthropic donation will extend the program’s reach to children under 18 who were not eligible for the initial government investment.

  • Impact: The donation is expected to provide a $250 deposit for approximately 25 million American children aged 10 and under who live in zip codes with a median income of $150,000 or less.

Senator Booker has leveraged this moment to demonstrate his capacity for bipartisanship, partnering with Republican Senator Ted Cruz (TX) to jointly promote the accounts in a letter to Fortune 1000 CEOs.

Booker & Cruz: “These accounts will launch a once-in-a-generation expansion of economic opportunity and prosperity for every American child…”

Despite his passionate defense of bipartisanship now—Booker famously railed against Democratic colleagues for working with Republicans in July, arguing that compromise made them “complicit” with the opposing agenda.

While maintaining his “moral obscenity” attack on the overall budget bill, Booker’s staunch support for the popular child investment accounts exemplifies a willingness to embrace bipartisan policy wins, even if it means endorsing a program passed by a bill he sought to destroy.
