Ridgewood NJ, The Garden State is digging out. After a ferocious winter storm dumped up to two feet of snow across New Jersey, the transportation “standstill” is finally thawing. From the terminals at Newark Liberty to the tracks of the Northeast Corridor, the message is clear: New Jersey is moving again.

However, “back to normal” doesn’t mean “without delays.” If you are heading out this Tuesday, here is the essential breakdown of what is running, what is stalled, and how to navigate the post-storm recovery.

Newark Liberty International (EWR): Cancellations Slowly Easing

While Terminal A is seeing activity again, the ripple effects of Sunday’s blizzard are still being felt. According to FlightAware, hundreds of travelers are still facing hurdles:

  • Total Cancellations: 476 flights (as of 3:46 PM Tuesday).

  • United Airlines: The airport’s largest carrier reported 200 cancellations (38%) and dozens of delays.

  • Regional Carriers: Republic Airways and GoJet remain the hardest hit, with cancellation rates hovering between 73% and 81%.

Pro-Tip: Check your flight status before leaving for EWR. Many regional connections are still being rescheduled as crews reposition aircraft.

NJ Transit Status: What’s Running?

NJ Transit President Kris Kolluri confirmed on CBS News that the system is rebounding quickly. “Getting the system back up within hours of the storm is a testament to our tireless crews,” Kolluri stated.

Service Status Special Notes
Rail Service Modified Operating on a Presidents’ Day Schedule.
Midtown Direct Diverted Morristown, Montclair-Boonton, & Gladstone diverted to Hoboken.
Bus & Light Rail Regular Operating on full weekday schedules.

Roads and Access Link

For those relying on paratransit, Access Link resumed regular weekday schedules as of 2:00 PM today. While major highways are largely cleared, local roads in areas that received the full 24 inches of snow remain narrow with significant snow piles.
