Hackensack, NJ – As snow blankets Northern New Jersey at a rapid pace, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco has issued an urgent plea to residents: Stay off the roads.

With blizzard conditions creating near-zero visibility and hazardous driving environments, the county’s emergency response teams are working around the clock to manage the intensifying winter storm.

The Massive Cleanup Effort by the Numbers

Bergen County has deployed a significant fleet to tackle the accumulation. Here is the scale of the current operation:

  • 90+ Plow Vehicles: Out in full force across the region.

  • 100+ Dedicated Employees: Working through the storm to keep infrastructure manageable.

  • 400+ Miles of Road: The total distance county teams are currently clearing.

  • Municipal Partnerships: Local towns are collaborating with the county to maximize coverage.

When Will Roads Be Safe?

Despite the massive deployment of resources, the sheer volume and duration of the snow mean that road conditions will remain dangerous throughout the night.

“Because the bulk of the snow is not stopping until tomorrow, expect the roads to be open for a Tuesday morning commute,” stated Executive Jim Tedesco.

Why You Must Stay Indoors

The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management and County officials emphasize that the safest place to be right now is at home. Public safety depends on resident cooperation for two main reasons:

  1. Safety for Plow Teams: Empty roads allow plow drivers to operate larger equipment safely and clear lanes faster.

  2. Emergency Vehicle Access: Keeping civilian cars off the road ensures that ambulances, fire trucks, and police can reach emergencies without being blocked by stuck or sliding vehicles.

      1. “Global warming” is a misnomer. The correct terminology is “Global Climate Change.” Having been a member of a national task force, I can tell you the “warms” will be getting warmer, the “colds” will be getting colder, the storms will be stormier, etc.

        2. Climates have cycles. So renaming ‘global warming’ into ‘climate change’ is your last grasp to get fools to fall for your BS. Just like an illegal alien is ‘undocumented’, or a drug dealer is ‘an unlicensed pharmacist’, or a woman is a ‘birthing person’. Give it up

      2. Then the plows put it right back on the sidewalk. Village mgr suggests the plows have to travel at a certain speed to get the snow off the street….which is complete bs

        1. Well, it isn’t BS.

The trucks have to run at a minimum speed to get the snow off the street and onto your newly cleaned sidewalk!

    3. Did you make it out of middle school? Stop humiliating yourself.

      1. We had junior and senior HS. No middle school. Did you ride on the short yellow bus?

  2. Thanks, Jim. Think you might fix all the depressed mahholes on the County roads come spring? Yeah, didn’t think so. You and the entire DPW team suck.

  3. 90+, I’ll take that to mean 93 with rounding. Bergen County has 70-towns. My guess 10+ trucks are in Paramus, and the remaining trucks are at the county garage(s) on coffee break. With the engines idling.
