Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is making it easier than ever for New Jersey residents and visitors to enjoy the holiday season with expanded service, special promotions, and convenient travel options. Whether you’re heading to a family gathering, a festive event, or simply taking your children for a seasonal adventure, NJ TRANSIT has you covered.
Extra Service for Holiday Travel
To accommodate increased travel needs, NJ TRANSIT is offering additional trains, buses, and light rail services:
- New Year’s Eve (December 31):
- Trains will run on a modified weekday schedule with extra service to New York and Hoboken on the RVL, M&E, and Port Jervis Lines starting late afternoon.
- After midnight, additional late-night trains will operate on all rail lines except the Atlantic City Line, with departures from Penn Station New York, Hoboken, and Trenton.
- Raritan Valley Line will run all night. Some evening trains are canceled and replaced with later departures.
- Buses will operate on either a weekday or special holiday schedule with added service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) between midnight and 6 a.m. Check the Bus Holiday Service Guide for details.
- New Year’s Day (January 1):
- Trains will follow a weekend/major holiday schedule on all rail lines.
- Most buses will run on a Saturday or Sunday schedule.
- Light rail services:
- Newark Light Rail: Saturday/Holiday schedule.
- HBLR and River LINE: Sunday/Holiday schedule.
Family-Friendly Savings with SuperSaver Fare
Take advantage of NJ TRANSIT’s SuperSaver fare, available through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6. This deal allows up to two children aged 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, making holiday outings with the family more affordable.
Important Beverage Policy for New Year’s Eve
To ensure safety and comfort:
- No beverages—including alcohol—will be allowed on board NJ TRANSIT trains, buses, or light rail vehicles from Tuesday, December 31 through the early hours of January 1. This policy will be strictly enforced.
- Reminder: Beverages are not permitted on NJ TRANSIT buses at any time, regardless of the event.
