FAIR LAWN, NJ — In what might be the most New Jersey thing to happen all week, a portable toilet service truck and a NJ Transit train had a close encounter of the flush kind — and no, this isn’t the plot of a new slapstick comedy.

At around 5:30 PM on Monday, a NJ Transit train headed westbound near Broadway in Fair Lawn gave a very uninvited “tap” to a utility truck that was parked a little too close to the tracks. The truck? It belonged to a company tasked with the very glamorous job of cleaning portable toilets for NJ Transit track workers in the area.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported — not even a bruised ego — and the truck got away with just a broken side mirror. The train? Not a scratch. Passengers? Unbothered. Crew? Still on track. Everyone? Pretty relieved this wasn’t a whole lot messier (literally).

🚽 What Exactly Happened?

According to officials, the truck’s driver had stepped out to do what heroes do — clean portable toilets — when the passing train clipped the stationary truck. We’re not saying the driver had a crappy day, but, well…

While the damage was minimal, the incident certainly raised a few eyebrows (and possibly a few questions about parking proximity to active rail lines).

🚔 Who’s Investigating?

The situation is now in the hands of the NJ Transit Police Department, who are likely doing a full report — complete with diagrams, statements, and probably at least one bad joke about toilet trucks.

No word yet on whether the truck was impounded or simply allowed to drive off into the sunset (with a cracked mirror and maybe a story to tell at the next staff meeting).

🚆 The Train Kept Rolling

In typical NJ fashion, the train didn’t skip a beat. With no damage and no passenger injuries, it continued its route — because in Jersey, not even a toilet truck on the tracks can stop public transit.

💡 Moral of the Story?

When you’re cleaning toilets next to train tracks, maybe double-check where you’re parking. Or better yet, give the train a courtesy flush — just in case.
