Everyone faces a situation where they might need some legal advice or assistance at some point in their lives. With adult life, comes responsibility, and that entails financial matters, paperwork, and dealing with the complicated legal system that not everybody is equipped to handle on their own. That is why it’s important, in this day and age, to keep the contacts of a trustworthy lawyer or legal firm – you never know when you might need them.
If you’d like to know what a good firm should entail, then look into their history. In the US, for example, Ridgewood NJ is in Bergen County and Aiello Harris client serves all of Bergen County including their neighbors in Ridgewood through their Lyndhurst NJ location. A sense of community with your firm and their lawyers always adds a needed layer of trust and security. According to Aiello, Harris, Marth, Tunnero & Schiffman, ‘When your legal freedoms, health, or ability to earn a living are put in jeopardy, your entire life is seriously impacted’, and it may be difficult to narrow down who would suit you best in any given situation. This is why it’s crucial that you ask around and look at reviews of different lawyers and law firms in your area to be sure that you are investing in a trustworthy lawyer.
The Various Ways Lawyers Can Assist You
Whether the matter at hand is regarding taxes and licenses, intellectual property, real estate, family law and divorce, mediation, immigration or bankruptcy, among other issues, a reliable law firm will provide all the support you need. It’s never a bad idea to find a law firm that provides lawyers that cover a number of areas so that you’re not put in a position where you have to stress over where to get a lawyer every single time a different issue arises.
Not only do law firms often carry all the legal skills you need under one roof, but they also usually have significant insights, connections and influence in the local, regional, and maybe even national legal communities.
When to Seek a Lawyer’s Consultation
Hiring a lawyer is like seeing a doctor; although you can meet them for the first time after the problem has happened, a better approach is to familiarize yourself with a good one early on, just in case. Once you have been served with a summons or complaint, it is kind of already late; the dispute has already occurred, and now it’s only a question of how much it will end up costing you in court payments, attorneys’ fees, settlements and other expenses. Don’t squeeze yourself for time, where you may end up having to rush for a last minute lawyer, which may lead to going for just about anyone who would give you the time of day. Be prepared.
Asking the Right Questions
The judicial system is complicated, and getting into a legal battle can cost you a lot of time and money – it’s quite the investment. That said, you are still the client in your law firm’s eyes, and you have the right to ask questions and get answers that will put your mind at ease. Don’t be afraid to ask direct questions about your lawyer’s experience; whether or not they’ve handled similar cases before; how flexible they are with their billing procedures; and if they will be invested in educating you about the legal nature of your specific case. These are all details that you will want to take note of before committing and investing in a business relationship with your lawyer, and which will come into play later on throughout your legal journey together.
Before Passing the Verdict
If you think you need legal assistance, you will want to hire the right person or firm for your case. Most law firms today allow for a free consultation session to give you a chance to determine whether or not they are right for you, so use it wisely. Before making an initial appointment, invest some time in research; aim for talking to an attorney whose practice focuses on your type of legal question, or someone who lists it as a type of law they frequently practice. And remember to always ask questions, for it is your legal right.

New bridge landing NJ, Bergen County Historical Society is hosting a lecture on : The Water Crisis of 1876 ,Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 7:30 pm at Steuben House, River Edge, NJ
Presented by Kevin Olsen
New Jersey has long depended on surface water for much of its potable water supplies. The 1876 Annual Report of the State Geologist features detailed discussions of the state’s water resources and provides valuable insights into what was then known about pure water and public health. By 1876 the links between pure water and health were well established but the underlying pathology was only dimly understood. In 1876 the New Jersey Geological Survey was forced to find ways of measuring the disease-causing potential of a water supply without actually knowing exactly how diseases were transmitted. This task was given special urgency because in the summer of 1876 a committee of the northern New Jersey mayors requested the aid of the State Geologist in identifying new sources of water supply. Searching for an alternative source of supply, Geological Survey chemists analyzed water samples from wells and rivers throughout the region. Based on these results the Geological Survey recommended the upper Passaic River basin as the new source of domestic water. The Geological Survey recommendations of 1876 lead directly to the construction of reservoirs in northern New Jersey. Today there are 13 major reservoirs in with a combined storage capacity of 76.2 billion gallons.
Kevin Olsen is the Instrumentation Specialist on the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department’s support staff at New Jersey’s Montclair State University. As an historian Kevin has published a number of papers related to chemical history and New Jersey’s maritime history.
