RIDGEWOOD — Most of those who turned out to meet former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton at her book signing at Bookends on Thursday afternoon left absolutely starstruck.

Some were petrified, remaining dead silent but smiling as they shook the hand of the woman who is widely expected to be a 2016 presidential candidate.

Others let their nerves get the better of them, and they’d end up blurting out strings of compliments and niceties, producing a wide and gracious smile across Clinton’s face as she continued signing books.

A few of the 1,200 from across North Jersey who turned out for Thursday’s book signing in Ridgewood left in tears, deeply inspired by the woman they’re hoping they get the chance to vote for in little more than two years’ time.

“She was so sweet,” offered Debra DiPrima of Fair Lawn, clutching a copy of Clinton’s new tome “Hard Choices.” “She’s an inspiration because she’s a strong, very poised woman. I told her that we all want her to run for president, and she just smiled at me and laughed.”

DiPrima, like the hundreds of others wearing “I’m Ready for Hillary” stickers, waited three hours to meet Clinton, breathing in the stifling, recycled air of Bookends’ basement.
