Frank Del Vecchio, plans to run for Ridgewood Village Council in the Spring of 2014.

Ridgewood resident Frank Del Vecchio, who is the police chief of Fairview, NJ, was overheard telling members of the crowd greeting Cory Booker at Starbucks on Friday that he, Del Vecchio, plans to run for Ridgewood Village Council in the Spring of 2014.

Chief Del Vecchio was the Democratic candidate for NJ State Assembly, District 40 in 1999 and 2001. He lost both elections to incumbent Republican candidates. He planned to run for Ridgewood Village Council in 2008, but did not submit required voter petitions prior to the established deadline.

Del Vecchio is a significant contributor to the Bergen County Democratic Organization and is viewed as being a strong political ally of Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn.

In the summer of 2011 it was revealed that while serving as Fairview’s Deputy Police Chief, Del Vecchio was “moonlighting” as the $250K per year CEO of a not for profit organization that later shuttered when its founder was indicted by the State of NJ for theft.

Despite the controversy surrounding his not for profit job, Del Vecchio was promoted to Fairview’s police chief in December of 2010.

The Del Vecchio family has resided on Walthery Avenue since September of 2003.

Amber Ready : It’s astounding that Fairview gave Frank time off to work at his other job

>Amber Ready : It’s astounding that Fairview gave Frank time off to work at his other job

It is astounding that Fairview gave Frank time off to work at his other job “saving Fairview much needed revenue”. Someone should be investigating the politics in Fairview and why shortly thereafter Frank would be promoted to Chief. It seems the good taxpayers of Fairview have been paying for services and positions over and above what was required.

The following announcement was from Amber Ready as disclosed to BusinessWeek: “AMBER Ready Announces Executive Changes
07/14/2009

AMBER Ready Inc. announced new key leadership appointments to help support the company’s rapid growth and spur greater national awareness of the AMBER Ready Child Safety Initiative. Effective immediately, law enforcement executive Frank Del Vecchio, who has served as Senior Vice President of the company for the past year, has been named as Chief Operating Officer and is tasked with managing AMBER Ready’s day-to-day operations and growing workforce. The company has also welcomed Gregory Thomas, a nationally recognized school safety expert, who will guide and advise AMBER Ready’s executive management team on its strategic business development efforts. Del Vecchio has more than 20 years experience in law enforcement and also currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Police of the Fairview Police Department in Bergen County, New Jersey.”

Amazing that the “law enforcement executive Frank Del Vecchio” could be “tasked with managing AMBER Ready’s day-to-day operations and growing workforce” while working full time as the Deputy Police Chief, and within months Police Chief, of the Fairview Police Department.

Something is very wrong here. The “effective immediately” announcement was made 7/14/2009 yet it seems Frank took those weeks off several months later? Very wrong.
