Washington DC, emotions ran high at the White House press briefing on Wednesday, April 16, as Patty Morin, the grieving mother of murder victim Rachel Morin, took the podium to denounce her daughter’s killer — and to deliver a fiery rebuke of political leadership she says failed her family.

Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five, was brutally raped and murdered in 2023 while jogging on the Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County, Maryland. This week, her accused killer, Victor Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, was convicted of the crime in a trial that revealed disturbing details of her final moments.

Rachel Morin’s Murder Trial Ends in Conviction

According to trial testimony, Martinez-Hernandez dragged Rachel into the woods, bludgeoned her head with rocks, raped her multiple times, and ultimately strangled her to death to prevent her from surviving and identifying him.

“There was no remorse on his face,” said Patty Morin. “He took my daughter so violently and so gruesomely that they sealed the pictures. This man thought he would walk free.”

White House Platform Used to Demand Action

Morin’s impromptu appearance at the White House was facilitated by the Trump campaign as it aims to spotlight crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt opened the briefing by criticizing Democrats’ response to the recent deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a separate case that has become politically explosive.

In her statement, Morin called out Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, who recently traveled to El Salvador to investigate the deportation of Abrego Garcia.

“Why is a senator using my taxpayer dollars to bring back someone who isn’t even a U.S. citizen,” she asked. “He barely acknowledged my daughter’s murder. Why does that person have more rights than I do, or my grandchildren?”

‘We Are American Citizens’: Morin Demands Border Accountability

With tearful resolve, Morin called for a stronger U.S. immigration policy and prioritization of American citizens’ safety over political correctness.

“Why should we allow violent criminals with no conscience at all to murder our mothers, sisters, and daughters? We need to protect our families, our borders, our children.”

She also urged the media to report the true brutality of what her daughter endured — and to stop downplaying the crisis.

Political Tensions Rise Over Immigration Enforcement

The White House briefing took place as political controversy swirled over the mistaken deportation of Abrego Garcia. Civil rights groups have accused the administration of violating due process, while DHS documents allege possible MS-13 gang ties, which Garcia’s family denies.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Pam Bondi released court documents supporting the administration’s concerns, including a restraining order sought by Garcia’s wife in 2021 that was later dropped.

A Family’s Fight for Justice

For two weeks, the Morin family sat through a trial filled with chilling evidence, revealing the true horror of Rachel’s final moments — many of which had never been made public before.

“He dragged her 150 feet. Her head was shattered like an eggshell. Then he raped her again,” said Morin. “This man didn’t just kill my daughter — he destroyed five children’s lives and robbed a grandchild of a grandmother.”

A Defining Moment in the 2024 Election?

Rachel Morin’s murder and the broader immigration debate it has ignited continue to dominate national headlines. As the 2024 election heats up, the White House’s decision to platform Morin underscores the increasing political pressure surrounding border security, violent crime, and immigration reform.
