Ridgewood NJ, a recent AP-NORC survey conducted shortly after the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy found that a significant 78% of U.S. adults believe the country is moving in the wrong direction. In contrast, only 21% expressed the belief that the U.S. is heading in the right direction. This represents a decline from a month earlier when 75% of Americans thought the country was on the wrong track, compared to 25% who believed it was headed in the right direction. The poll reflects the most negative sentiment about the country’s direction since May, coinciding with the time of the debt ceiling crisis. President Biden received a net job approval rating of 38% and a net disapproval rating of 61%. Furthermore, a net 54% of respondents viewed President Biden unfavorably, while 42% viewed him favorably. These results demonstrate a widespread sense of dissatisfaction with the country’s current trajectory.
As of June 2022, an AP-NORC survey revealed a significant level of pessimism among U.S. adults regarding the country’s direction, with 85% of respondents believing that the nation was heading in the wrong direction, compared to only 14% who felt things were moving in the right direction. This sentiment marked a more negative outlook than in the previous month when 78% of respondents saw the country on the wrong track, while 21% believed it was progressing positively. Dissatisfaction with the nation’s direction was shared across the political spectrum, with 92% of Republicans and 78% of Democrats expressing dissatisfaction, marking the highest level among Democrats since President Joe Biden took office. Additionally, only 20% of Americans described the nation’s economy as good, while 79% considered it poor, with a relatively bipartisan consensus on the economy’s performance. President Biden’s approval ratings remained underwater, with 38% of Americans approving of his job performance and 57% disapproving. These findings reflect a widespread sense of concern and discontent among the American public.
